New Hampshire Modern Quilt Guild
January 8, 2026 General Membership Meeting Recap
The meeting was led by Helen L, our 2026 President.
There were 43 members in attendance.
Raffle Winners
- Lorri B won the door prize, a fat quarter bundle.
- Leona S won the raffle for the Island Batik layer Cake.
- Susie B won the raffle for the TNT Quilt Side Table.
Guild Business
Helen introduced the 2026 Board. Amanda K (Communications) and Sonia G (Treasurer) were not able to be present.
Helen distributed gifts for 2025 Board members who were stepping down: Susan H, Laurie K, and Lori W.
Secretary (Mary Lou S) Nothing new.
Treasurers (Sonia G and Laurie B) Everything is going well.
Communications (Amanda K) Everything is going well.
Helen reported that Amanda is looking into purchasing a microphone and speakers for the back of the room to allow everyone to hear what is said at the front of the room.
Events and Programming (Raya F)
- Susie B and Chelsea F collected our 2026 Secret Buddies questionnaires, placed them in blank envelopes, and randomly distributed them to the 19 participating members. Chelsea compiled a list of makers and recipients; she will periodically check in on makers to see how the project is going. Buddies will be revealed and quilts exchanged at the November meeting!
- Raya discussed next month’s activity: our Annual Yard Sale. Clean out your sewing rooms and bring no longer needed fabric, books, magazines, and notions for sale at low prices to benefit the Guild. Book, magazine, and fabric have standard prices. Please put a label and price on any notions you are donating. You are welcome to invite your non-member friends to come to this meeting.
Community Outreach (Carol K and Robin R)
- Carol and Robin have been busy distributing the large number of quilts collected from members in December. Quilts have gone to the Hospice House in Merrimack, the Nashua Soup Kitchen and Shelter, and New Generations in Greenland. New Generations is a shelter for women and their children, which helps clients obtain permanent housing.
Retreats (Sarah K)
- Sarah passed out a handout with essential details on our next retreat, which will be held May 28-31, 2026 at The Fireside Inn in Portland, Maine. An email will also go out to all members with the same information.
- Ophelia C will be offering an optional Mystery Quilt activity for the retreat.
- Registration is required by March 15, 2026.
Hospitality (Mary Ellen M and Lesley R)
- Lesley reported that starting next month, Hospitality volunteers will no longer be bringing beverages. Please bring your own thermos/mug and beverage.
Other Guild Activities
Scrap Club. Lesley R announced that she and Sarah K will be facilitating a scrap quilt project. Starting in March, participants will meet at Ophelia C’s house on the first Sunday of the month, from 9 AM – 4 PM, to work on scrap quilts. They passed around a sign-up sheet for members who would like to join in. They will send an email to the entire Guild as well. The first meeting will be March 1st.
Fabric Donation: Barbara H was given a large amount of fabric from an estate in her neighborhood, and brought in several large totes for us to look through. More will be coming. This is a generous donation from a Nashua quilter’s family.
MEETING ACTIVITY: THEN AND NOW SHOW AND TELL
The meeting activity was a modified Show and Tell. Most members who participated brought in two quilts: one of the first they ever made, and a recent make. It was fun to see the changes and the similarities!

Cleaning Old Quilts. Many of our older quilts show the passage of time! Mary Ellen recommended “Super Clean,” an automotive cleaner, for removing stains on quilts.
Please note that due to large number of members participating in Show and Tell, we cannot document and provide links to all the quilts shown. If you are interested in learning more about a quilt presented, please contact the member directly. We have included the first initial of the last name of everyone to make look-up easier. Thank you for your understanding.
