Guild Atmosphere Sew-Along!

As a project for the COVID quarantine, members of the guild decided to complete the Atmosphere pattern Quilt Sew-Along, led by the pattern designer, Lee Heinrich.  Our group met regularly by Zoom to share progress and creative choices.  The results are below (if I missed someone, please send your photo to me and I will get it added!).  As you can see there are many different but equally beautiful interpretations.

June 2020 Meeting Raffle

Hoping everyone is doing well and getting some sewing done!

Our May virtual raffle was very successful so we are going to continue in June!   Thanks to everyone who participated!

We are going to adjust the categories to be 6 tickets for $5, 12 tickets for $10, and 24 tickets for $20 (the Paypal fee makes a $1 ticket not worthwhile).  All of the tickets will go into a single pool, and we will pull from that pool for each of the three raffle items.  The Paypal button is at the end of this post.

There will be three (3) raffle prizes.  The items for the raffle are (1) two sets of fat quarters from Carolyn Friedlander's new Jetty collection, one with 13 FQ and the second with 14 FQ, and (2) a book titled "Modern Kogin" that discusses various types of modern Sashiko stitching.

The raffle is closed!  We will pull the three winning tickets at our meeting Tuesday night.

Recap of April 2020 Zoom Guild Meeting

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to check in with folks, and for those of you who weren't on our Zoom session last week, do a recap of things we talked about.  Many thanks to RenĂ© for the "Hollywood Squares" screen shot of our meeting!  As you can say we were all able to see each other and have a good discussion, and even do a little "sewcializing"!

First, if you are not getting emails from the NHMQG, or if we are sending them to the wrong address, please email with your updated information!  We have several members that we do not have email addresses for, and several others have provided updated addresses.  Thanks in advance!

Second, Sew-alongs!

Betsy Perry ( is coordinating the Lee Heinrich Atmosphere QAL. This project is already underway, but not too late to get going on!  More information can be found here:
Please let Betsy know if you plan to participate, so you can join discussions with NHMQG members working on this QAL.

Trish Walstad ( is organizing a Gemology Quilt Along that she hopes to get going in June.  This book has different gemstone cut based piecing and a variety of options for setting them, so there is a lot of flexibility! This is a fun way to try out paper-piecing and getting transparency effects with your fabric.  Please check out the book and if you are interested let Trish know.

Patchwork Lab: Gemology

Third, we recommend highly that members go take a look at the various resources on the mother guild webpage.  All NHMQG members are able to access these resources, which include a variety of videos, tips and other useful material.  There is a wealth of information to explore!

Last, we had a try at doing Show & Tell via Zoom which was fun.  Members showed off their sewing rooms and latest projects.  Please post your project progress or completions on the guild Facebook page or on Instagram using #nhmqg2020 so we all can see what everyone is up to.

We hope members are getting a lot of sewing done.  Please let your Board know if you have any questions or requests at

January 2020 Show & Tell

Photos from our January meeting Show & Tell are below.  Unfortunately the recording on my phone did not happen so there is going to be limited commentary.  These are in the order they were showed.

A bright and flowery jelly roll quilt.

Colorful flowers!

Like the mix of light blues and red!

A small table top quilt with squares.

Apologies for this being a bit blurry, but wanted to leave it in.

Super bright Kaffe Fassett fabrics!

Dramatic squares set on point!

Dramatic green quilt design!

Marie showed this contrasting, off-center log cabin quilt.

A soft cuddly quilt finish.

Suzy finished this quilt with gradated ombre colored fabrics.

Suzie also completed this impressive Patchwork City quilt, designed by Elizabeth Hartman.

Ophelia showed her rendition of Penguin Party by Elizabeth Hartman.  The plaids are flannel!

Ophelia also showed us optically challenging quilt!

Ophelia also completed her Snowflake -- the pattern is by Nicole Dacsiewicz of Modern Handcraft. Front and back are shown.

Ophelia's colorful stars with scrappy centers, front and back.

Ophelia's last quilt was this large dramatic heart made out of wonky blocks.

Leslie has been very busy and showed us a number of finishes.  This has the incredibly cute animal panel in the center.

As I recall these are the colors of a favored athletic team.

Pretty red and blues!

Nice movement of the steps through the block colors!

This is a very pretty exploration of squares and blues.

Robin presented this ultra-colorful and cheerful quilt!

A dramatic improv with the black background showing off the stars.

A novel setting of triangles, many with dots and stripes.

Donna showed this incredibly cute mini.

Front and back of this lovely finish with bright colors.

This finish has a lot of wonderful movement in it.
Patty showed her colorful paper-pieced Swell pattern (Alison Glass).

Trish showed her paper-pieced elephant.  Pattern is by Violet Craft.
