A Weekend with Anna Maria Horner
Our spring weekend with Anna Maria Horner will be in April and registration opens to all participating guilds on the September 20th. You will be able to signup at this link. Here is the class schedule and class descriptions.

Mod Corsage, Friday, April 13, 2018

Using the traditional Broderie Perse style quilt as inspiration, Anna Maria will guide you through building your own modern bouquet. While the traditional technique uses mostly hand appliqué, Anna Maria will share several approaches to achieving a gorgeous result with combinations of simple patchwork, a little improv and some appliqué on the side. This is a wonderful way to break free of traditional block by block patchwork, yet still provides enough of a format to feel comfortable within the freedom. This style of patchwork will allow you to continue in a block manner or create a single bouquet as the entire quilt. Techniques taught: fabric selection, improvisational patchwork, needle turn applique by hand, raw edge applique by machine, curved bias strip preparation, applique, template demos for cutting and pressing applique shapes, compositional planning and layout

Inspiration by Hand, Saturday, April 14, 2018

Drawing on her tireless passion for handwork, Anna Maria offers a class based on hand quilting, embroidery, or embellishment concepts for the quilt maker and/or embroiderer. With several diverse examples of her own explorations to share, Anna Maria offers multiple demos on stitch styles and how to look at fabric and materials in a new way. Techniques: hand quilting, embroidery.

Color Fluency with Patchwork, Sunday, April 15, 2018

Anna Maria switches up traditional color conventions in order to develop stunning and individual palettes. Beginning with a traditional color wheel, Anna demonstrates how each color interacts with one another depending on its position in the wheel. Then using a fun color palette exercise with fabric, she guides students towards building an adventurous, yet theory based, palette. Palettes will further get tweaked using group input. Anna Maria explains how to translate palette knowledge to printed fabrics, demonstrating how scale and proportion can be used to create new and interesting patchwork combinations. This class is ideal for anyone who wants to understand how to work intuitively with color and print. Extending this class with a patchwork tutorial is an ideal way to immediately put some of the new color skills to use, and get students excited to try out their palettes. Techniques taught: basic Color Theory, translating printed fabrics to color categories, patchwork block, scrutinizing and enhancing palettes, fabric selection for quilt planning.

All classes will take place in West Newbury and include lunch. The cost is $100 and each member can signup for one class on September 20th. On October 4th the workshops will be open for additional registrations before being opened to the general public on October 18th. Anna Maria recently taught a class in Maine and it sold out very quickly so we're lucky that we get to have her for 3 days!
